Not to have a war in the future…

This is what, first of all, the war veterans and base area soldiers wished. We had a meeting with them on the eve of the Great Victory Day within the frames of the social and charitable marathon called Zhenis initiated by the group of companies of JSC Samruk-Kazyna. During the peaceful time the veterans have been creating something - they devoted the long years of their lives to the work in the coal industry of Ekibastuz. So, please get acquainted…

Aleksandr Fyodorovich Shchetchikov was born in 1924 in Mordoviya. He graduated from the railroad specialized school. He went to the front line being an 18-year-olg boy. He received the military specialty of an air agitator and the sergeancy in the vicinities of Moscow. He had the baptism of fire on the Oryol and Kursk Bulge in the composition of the air defense gun regiment, he participated in the battles for Kiev, he freed Ukraine, Poland, and Transcarpathia. In May of 1945 he finished the war in Czechoslovakia, not far from Prague. The regiment, with which he met the victory, is the only one in the division awarded with Order of Wartime Red Banner. The chest of the veteran is deservedly decorated with the wartime awards: medals For Bravery, For Tactical Merits, For Victory over Germany and many others. After the war our hero worked in the Far East, in 1967 he moved to Ekibastuz and worked as a foreman, a construction manager at Bogatyr coal mine, a shaft-sinker in the mine-building department…

Yelena Nikolaevna Malygina was born in 1922 in Ukraine. She lost her parents early. She worked on one of Donbass plants. From the war beginning the enterprise was evacuated to the Urals – to the town of Orsk of Chkalov region.

There was no work, no money was paid, they lived starving – she went to the front line to Kursk. She helped partisans, she was taking care of wounded soldiers, she overcame the horrors of life under occupation. Through to the end of war she worked at the textile factory in Moscow region. It was difficult, the rear area veteran recollects. He has been living in Ekibastuz from 1949, that is why, he knows the town history very well. First she worked in the hospital, then at Zapadny coal mine, where she retired from. She is thankful to the Kazakh people, who helped her a lot. She is mentioned with jubilee awards…

Khakim Zhumatovich Doszhanov came from Bayanaul region. After his father went off to war he, being an 11-year-old boy, moved to Ekibastuz together with his relatives.

He worked in very many places, as the veteran recollects: from the age of 12 years old he worked as a salesman, then - in the glassworks, he worked as a shepherd. When the war ended he studied in Lebyazhie boarding school. He remembers how the people were exulting on the Victory Day. He graduated from Maikain Kazakh school cum laude, received a higher education. First he worked in Karaganda, then he returned to Ekibastuz and worked in Ekibastuzugol Production Association. At the age of 55 he retired in 1986. He brought up children, is happy with success of his grandchildren...
