The Hall of Labor Glory is 5 years!

On December 25-th, Ekibastuz, the big part of the citizens of which is connected with the coal mining industry, celebrated the great jubilee – the 60-th anniversary of the commencement of the industrial operations of the deposit. On the same very day five years ago, on the eve of celebrating the 55-th anniversary of the coal deposit development there took place the opening of the Hall of Labor Glory – the center of preservation of the rich and interesting history of the native land, the heroic deeds of thousands and thousands of miners, mine constructors, railroad specialists for the young generation. In 2009 the first managers and employees of Bogatyr Coal LLP took part in its opening ceremony in the solemn atmosphere. There were also the representatives of the town community and the miners-veterans.

At that time Murat Makhmetov, the honorable quest, having looked over the exposition, noted:

- I think miners deserved the opening of such a hall long time ago. Here I saw so much interesting and useful for myself although I have been working in the coal mines for over 44 years, and much was happening before my eyes. I think it is a place, where young miners should be mandatorily brought to in order to get familiarized with the history of not only the enterprise but the whole Ekibastuz coal basin. I hope in time the Hall of Labor Glory will become a real museum. Because our joint history is much richer, and it will continue in the future.

The words became fatidic. Currently it is really a museum. Here there are hundreds of various historic documents, rare photos, personal belongings, awards and medals of our renowned countrymen, other exhibits. At the mounts there is the history of the coal deposit development depicted with the help of photos and other exhibits.

The Hall of Labor Glory is constantly visited by pupils, students, inhabitants of Ekibastuz, veterans, Bogatyr Coal LLP employees, who view the exhibited things with undisguised interest.

 

This year the Hall of Labor Glory is five years old. The first museum keeper Svetlana Mikhailovna Chalaya shared her reminiscences on this jubilee date.

- I was lucky enough to participate in such a decent undertaking. The history of Ekibastuz miners and the enterprise is incredibly wide and rich. It would be a sacrilege not to save and eternalize it. The idea of creation of the Hall appeared long time ago, thanks to the efforts and insistence of Bogatyr Coal LLP first managers, the United Company Rusal and Samruk-Energy JSC invested in the project of the Hall of Labor Glory. I was proposed to become an organizer, and I agreed, of course. The painstaking but joyful work started. The incredible support was rendered by Erken Zhunusovich Rakhmangulov, Director for Personnel and Social Policy. He assisted in collecting materials, addressed to the heads of structural subdivisions of the enterprise, communicated with the veterans. You know many people responded to our call. Sometimes I was pleasantly surprised that people were parting with their family relics without any doubts presenting rarities, which became the museum exhibits. So, the Mukushev family made a present in the form of a symbolic key from the town gates presented to Zhalel Mukushev as the first honorable citizen of Ekibastuz. Anna Muzychuk brought a souvenir - a miniature gramophone for the great labor in honor of the 25-th anniversary of Tsentralny mine in 1979.

The employees of our company took an active part in the creation of the exposition. The model of the first SE-3 excavator was made by Nikolay Potapenko, the electric repairman on equipment maintenance and repair of Mining Equipment Repair Shop of Bogatyr mine. The employees of Rolling Stock Depot #2 of Railroad Equipment Repair Department made a model of a steam locomotive with dump cars, which hauled the first train with coal.

For a year and a half we were getting ready for the opening. We tried to make visits to the Hall interesting for everybody. I still remember the excitement before the presentation. I would like to thank Tamara Borisovna Karpets for her support. The opening ceremony of the Hall of Labor Glory was held in the solemn atmosphere, and it went well.

Currently the Hall of Labor Glory has been sustainably functioning and developing thanks to the efforts of employees of the company Training Center.

 

The exposition is located in two halls of the museum.

The material of the first mount is devoted to the pre-revolution period of the basin development. The first written testimony on opening of Ekibastuz basin was the request of the Ural miner Verkhotur merchant of the 1-st guild Aleksandr Bernardoki on discovery of Kara-Bidaik black coal pit dated June 21, 1867. At this mount there is also Decree of the Council of People's Commissars "On Nationalization of Ekibastuz Coal Pits of Kirghiz Mining and Industrial Society" signed by Chairman of the Soviet of People's Commissars V.Uliyanov (Lenin).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

            Further at the mounts one can view the stages of the mine development: the first drill rigs, excavators, bulldozers, the first building of Irtyshuglestroy trust with a hotel at the upper storey, rails from Voksresensk railroad dated 1911. The Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR dated September 28, 1949 "On Development of Coal Mining at Irtysh Coal Deposit". The central place in the hall is taken by the models of a rack excavator and a steam-locomotive with dump cars, which were the first to mine and transport coal of our mine.

            At the mounts there are the symbolic jubilee tons of coal (500 mm, 600 mm, 700-900 mm и1 billion tons of coal), there are dates, mine names, excavator types, crew pictures, who mined and shipped those jubilee tons. Here there are pictures reflecting meetings devoted to those events, machinery is shown, which was put in operations stage-by-stage, red challenge banners for achieving high results in the socialist competition, awards, certificates of honor, bands of award, medals of our veterans of coal industry.

            The consumer goods manufactured at our Mining and Transportation Equipment Repair Plant shop are also exhibited.

The symbolic key from Bogatyr mine, which had been presented by the builders from "Ekibastuzshakhtostroy" to its Director Vyacheslav Valeriyanovich Kalandarishvili upon completion of Bogatyr mine construction.

            At the mounts titled "Awards" and "Labor Glories a Man" - awards, medals, badges presented to our employees for high labor results and labor competition. Many employees were awarded with: Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Order of Lenin, Hero of Socialist Labor, Honored Miner, Miner's Glory, Excellent Worker, Socialist Competition Shockworker awards.

            There is a mount devoted to Ivan Petrovich Fedotov - Chief Engineer, Honored Citizen of Ekibastuz, the author of over 80 scientific researches. He made the huge contribution to the history of Ekibastuz coal deposit development, Stanislav Pavlovich Kurzhey – Honored Citizen of Ekibastuz, active personality who met with President of our country, Melekhov Dmitry Pavlovich - Honored Citizen of Ekibastuz, Advisor to General Director, Amangos Titauovich Utegenov – Former General Director of EkibastuzUgol Production Association, Deputy, who defends interests of miner in the mazhilis (the Lower Chamber of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan).

            The second hall reflects the modern stage of our deposit development, the introduction of new equipment and technologies, large trucks, hydraulic excavators, conveyor bridges, conveyors, the coal and overburden loading complex. The central place in the hall of the modern stage of our mine development is taken by the model of Ekibastuz deposit. By the hall perimeter, on the banners there is the modern equipment presented, which is used for coal mining and hauling.

At the mounts there are the minerals, which are mined in Ekibastuz deposit. There are clear tracks of fern leaves, petrified bodies of trees, shell rock, which confirm that once-flooded forest became the basis of our deposit.

The mounts called "Geography of Coal Shipment" and "Coal Markets" demonstrate the immensity of coal mining and transportation by our enterprise. The mount called "The Working Rhythm of the Enterprise" demonstrates the working moments at various parts of our deposit. In the pictures there are all General Directors beginning from 1997 till the present time – V.V. Shcherbovich, Dennis C. Price, S.N. Opanasenko, V.K. Shchukin.

The mount devoted to the social policy of our company tells us about the achievements of our company in development of personnel, town and state, as a whole. There are awards and letters of honor, letters of award, which were awarded to our enterprise in different nominations.

The souvenir called Bogatyr presented by S.P. Kurzhey to the Hall of Labor Glory and symbolizing the huge power of our enterprise.

There is also a mount devoted to the recreation zone and sport achievements of our Bogatyr Coal LLP employees in different kinds of sport. There is also a symbolic torch, diploma given to General Director of our company V.K. Shchukin for participation in the relay race of bearing the fire of the Seventh Asian Games "Astana-Almaty-2011".

The challenge cup for the prize place of the picked team of our company in the Olympics amongst the employees of the group of companies JSC Samruk-Energo.

The exposition is big and nice. Besides, by the initiative of General Director V.K. Shchukin additional field excursions to the structural subdivisions of the company were arranged at the enterprise. The fund of the Hall of Labor Glory is constantly replenished. It means the interest to it will not give out.
