All three of them - with a difference of several years - got the specialty of electric locomotive operator' assistant in the Town Professional and Technical Secondary School #163 (currently it is Ekibastuz Mining and Technical Secondary School named after K. Pshenbayev), which was one of the twenty best professional technical secondary schools in the Soviet Union in the past and one of three best ones in the coal industry. After the study Novikov brothers were employed in Rolling Stock Depot-2 maintaining Udarnaya, Yuzhnaya and Zapadnaya stations. To where their father worked.

At the same place, at Stepnaya Rolling Stock Depot Yury Kuzmich works, and Nikolay Kuzmich works as a diesel locomotive operator, crew leader. Having the labor duty at Ekspluatastiya Rolling Stock Depot Yury Novikov's children - Servicing Depot Foreman Stanislav Novikov and Locomotive Crew Dispatcher Svetlana Karetnikova - continue the family dynasty.
