BOGATYR SWANS

 

We are already acquainted with this couple of snow-white swans. This year we have been waiting impatiently for them to fly here again. The beautiful birds have not defeated us of our hopes.

 

For several days past the swans have been swimming with importance and deliberation in sight of numerous transients in their cars in their taken fancy nameless small lake located right at the foot of Yuzhny waste dump. That slam lake fenced from cold and biting winds has become the so called transhipment base for these birds, where they strengthen their health, have rest before a new passage to far countries, find something to eat and drink.

People say that white swans are birds pernickety about their food, they do not stop near foul water reservoirs. It means, for all claims to the contrary, that the nature near Bogatyr coal mine is lifeless for a long time, it is just a rumor. One can not deceive animals and birds. From outside one can think the lake is lifeless. But when one comes colder, one can see a lot of living creatures. Ducks, pewits, gulls, and sandpipers nest here. Some people say one can meet a water rat here. In Kazakhstan there are a few locations, where white swans stop when migrating to the south. We are lucky that one of such locations is in Ekibastuz. It means our ecology is good.
