In 2009 Bogatyr Coal, a joint venture of Samruk Kazyna Kazakhstani National Welfare Fund and RUSAL Russian company sold its customers as much 34.8 million tons of coal including 20.85 million tons sold the power enterprises of Kazakhstan and 13,95 million tons sold the power enterprises of Russia.

On the eve of Miners’ Day the Honor Board of Bogatyr Coal, LLP has been renewed: the old portraits of the best workers by the results of the company’s activity in 2008 were carefully removed and packed, and on their place there are seventeen new portraits now.

By the оld-established tradition the miners of Bogatyr Coal, LLP on the eve of the professional holiday give the names of their best representatives. They are awarded with departmental awards, they are honored at solemn meetings, they are given diplomas and cash bonuses.

As it is testified by historical documents, the discovery of Ekibastuz Coal Basin relates to as early as 1867. The coal mining has been begun at the boundary of XIX –XX centuries by Voskresenskiy Mining Joint Stock Company, and since 1913 – by English Concession Company “Kirgizian Mining Joint Stock Company”, where the main shareholder was English millionaire, Lesly Urkart and USA former president, Gerbert Guver.

After establishment of the Soviet power in 1918 at the territory of Pavlodar Priirtyshje, the decree of Board of People’s Commissars was signed on nationalization of Ekibastuz coal copies. However, only after the war the surveyors and designers came there. In 1954, the first coal mine named further as Central Mine was commissioned with the capacity of 3 mm tons per year.

Bogatyr Mine with the designed capacity of 50 mm tons of coal p.a. was constructed in nine stages since 1965 till 1979. In 1985, the maximum annual productivity came to 56,8 mm tons of coal. The mine of such unit capacity was constructed in the world for the first time and that is why it was listed into the Guinness Book. Until 1996, Bogatyr Mine belonged to GAO Ekibastuzkomir.

The new phase of deposit development began in the middle of 90-th years of last century, when the new investors came there. The history of Bogatyr Access Komir, LLP began in September 1996. At that time, according to the results of open tender conducted in compliance with the government’s decision of the Kazakhstan, Access Industries Inc. Company privatized the property of Bogatyr Mine and Stepnoi Mine (70%). In short terms the team of new managers has achieved a financial stability of the enterprise and proceeded to the implementation of program on further development of technological complex. The production technology of mining operations that existed so far had certain shortcomings. The main of these shortcomings is the absence of possibility to blend the coal that in its turn reduced its competitiveness. Besides, the further deepening of mining operations results in the growth of coal production cost factor.

In this connection the management of Bogatyr Access Komir, LLp has developed the investment program for mining production development and proceeded to its implementation. It is designed for the medium-term period till 2025.

As a result of the agreement of the shareholders beginning with 2009 Bogatyr Access Komyr, LLP started being managed by two companies, the Kazakhstani state holding Samruk-Kazyna and the Russian UC RusAl. In March of 2009 Bogatyr Access Komyr, LLP was renamed as Bogatyr Coal, LLP.
