Development Prospects

Bogatyr Coal LLP during the period of 2017–2027 set the following PURPOSES for itself:

► Providing growing demands of the power sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ekibastuz coal for account of technical development of the operations according to the Concept of Coal Industry Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the Period Until 2020 approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

► Observing state interests in the issues of guaranteed development of energy and mining facilities;

► Preserving and improving the social situation in Ekibastuz region.

THE TASKS Bogatyr Coal LLP is facing:

► Preservation and increase of the production capacity of the enterprise;

► Improvement of the coal products quality in the interests of power engineers;

► Reduction of operational costs;

► Increase of labor productivity;

► Replacement of physically obsolete equipment;

► Reduction of hazardous impacts on environment.

Projects and Investments

Beginning from 2005 Bogatyr Coal LLP  has been implementing the planned conversion to the truck and conveyor technology of coal transportation at Bogatyr and Severny coal mines with its blending and continuous loading into rail cars.

The introduction of the truck and conveyor technology will allow not only preserving the current capacity of the enterprise but also increasing the coal production to provide the forecasted growth of coal demand from power engineers of Kazakhstan and Russia. This technology will allow:

► Minimizing the negative influence of mining works deepening;

► Modernizing the existing operations by replacement of equipment and technologies with new ones;

► Rationalizing the order of mining reserves within the boundaries of the mining allotment;

► Reducing the time of rail cars turnover by 2,5 times and introducing the processes of accurate loading without uncoupling trains.

Upon the fulfillment of the set purposes to convert to the truck and conveyor technology of coal transportation to the surface with its blending and continuous loading into semi-cars:

At Bogatyr coal mine:

► In 2006 the company, jointly with the German firm Willibald Streck and the Kazakhstani design institute Karagandagiproshakht and K, developed the Feasibility Study of Conversion to the Truck and Conveyor Technology with Coal Blending at Bogatyr Coal Mine with the Gradual Increase of its Capacity up to 40,0 Million Tons per Year;

► From 2005 through to 2008 at the company mines the truck and railroad technology was introduced with the use of shovel excavators, large trucks and also the conveyor and railroad technology on coal blending, what was an intermediary phase of the conversion to the cycle and flow technology of coal mining, blending and loading. The coal mining is carried out by shovel excavators with loading coal into large trucks (with cargo capacity of 90-130 t), which in their own turn haul coal to the points of forming stockpiles with blended coal. The loading of blended coal from stockpiles into rail semi-cars is carried out by bucket-wheel excavators;

► During the period of 2008-2010 the investment project to the amount of 2,880 million tenge was implemented on reconstruction of the transportation scheme to prepare the front of works for construction of the cycle and flow technology objects at Bogatyr coal mines - at mining sections ## 5, 6, 9, and 10. The implementation of the project allowed:

- preparing the sites for construction of the cycle and flow technology objects;

- reducing the average distance of coal haulage from 16,2 km in 2006 down to 12,9 km in 2010;

- reducing the distance of railroad tracks of the coal complex by 19,4 km and 128 rail switches;

► From 2014 the piling of coaly rocks and inner-burden into the permanent in-pit dump formed on the stationary slope of mining section #5 has been carried out;

► Until 2024 the final phase will be implemented of the full conversion of Bogatyr coal mine to the truck and conveyor technology of coal transportation to the surface with its blending and continuous loading into semi-cars, with a step-by-step increase of its production capacity up to 40,0 million tons per year. By this technology it is envisaged to use modern highly-productive equipment: shovel excavators, large trucks; construction of crushing and reloading points; systems of main and lifting conveyors; blending and loading complex, in the composition of which there are catching and shipping conveyors, stackers, loading machines, loading points with batch-weighing coal loading into rail cars without their uncoupling by a loop scheme of feed.

 At Severny coal mine:

► In 2005 the truck and railroad technology was introduced, where coal mining is made by shovel excavators with loading into large trucks (with the cargo capacity of 90 t), which, in their own turn, haul coal to the points of forming stockpiles with blended coal. Loading of  blended coal from stockpiles into rail semi-cars is made by bucket-wheel excavators.

► During the period from 2017 through to 2026 the capacity of Severny coal mine will be preserved on the level of 6,0 million tons per year. The conduct of mining works in the sections 1 and 4 is envisaged by the existing truck and railroad technology. The existing fleet of equipment is applied on mining benches: shovel excavators and hydraulic excavators (backhoe) with loading into automobile transport.

► From 2027 the perspective of Severny coal mine development envisages the conversion from the existing truck and railroad technology of mining works to the truck and conveyor technology with coal blending at the Coal and Overburden Complex at elevation -30,0 m located on the stationary slope of the mine (mining section #2) in two phases.

► From 2034 it is envisaged to commission the cycle and flow overburden complex, at the same time mining overburden rocks in the mine is carried out by shovel excavators with loading into large trucks with their delivery to a crushing and reloading point, with transshipment onto the system of lifting, main conveyors with delivery to a waste dump by conveyor transport.

► From 2035 while introducing the second phase the conversion to the truck and conveyor technology will allow increasing the coal production up to 18,0 million tons per year.
